We made it to Friday (again)
A year ago, I was feeling self-congratulatory for having persevered through a WEEK of (loosely) overseeing my children in school-from-home while working full-time. Who could have known that one year later, my kids would still be in virtual-school, I would still be calling the (former) guest room my office?
While our collective resilience has been remarkable, it’s worth a pause to take inventory of the physiological effects this past year has had, the toll on our nervous systems, which have been doing what they’re designed to do, to keep us safe. Reckoning with the reality that we won’t be as productive as we once were. Tending to grief. Making space for intentional choice to have compassion. Being kind to ourselves when we forget.
Thank you to my friend Jessie for recommending this Krista Tippett On Being podcast with Christine Runyan that speaks to all of this so beautifully. “It’s so easy to pass over, so we don’t actually drop into the wonderment of whatever is here. We do have to create those conditions. And it’s so worth it, if we do.”
We made it, yet again, to the proverbial Friday. That is occasion for wonderment.
